
Biography
Athena Ko (PPE, 1997) is a wellness entrepreneur, philanthropist and investor.
She is the founder of The Gong Girl, which pioneers the use of sound meditation in the wellness industry. Prior to this, Athena has a long-established career in finance and is a founding member of Portland Capital, backed by Sir Ronald Cohen, Lord Jacob Rothschild and Sir Harry Solomon. She currently sits on the Board of a single-family office and oversees its global multi-asset investment strategy and philanthropic initiatives.
She is an ardent advocate in climate, education and mental health issues.
Educated in Hong Kong, UK and US, Athena holds an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University (St Hilda’s College) and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Athena was made a Foundation Fellow of St Hilda’s College in April 2025 in recognition of her generous endowment of the Tutorial Fellowship in Economics, currently held by Dr Anders Bredahl Kock. The Fellowship was renamed the Dr Mary Gregory Tutorial Fellowship in Economics, in honour of Athena’s esteemed former tutor.
