Graduate Expansion

Postgraduate study is key to developing a skilled workforce, societal leaders, and future academics. Our strategy is:

  • To grow our graduate student body from 230 to around 350, including supporting part-time graduates who have caring responsibilities or who work part time.
  • To offer many more full and contributory scholarships so that we can compete with other global institutions and Oxford colleges and attract the best graduates.
  • To partner with the University so that the progress made in widening access to undergraduate study can be replicated for graduate students from under-represented communities.

Our goal is to raise at least £5 million in graduate scholarship funding, comprising gifts of all sizes.

  • Graduate study costs around £20,000-£40,000 per year for UK students and £50,000 for international students, plus living expenses.
  • We aim to establish at least three fully-funded Graduate Studentships. The University currently offers a 40% match for endowment-based donations.
  • Affordable accommodation is also key. Our ambition is to house 50% of our graduates.

St Hilda’s taught me that my love of history could actually become my life, and gave me the confidence to pursue postgraduate study, move to Italy, and teach at an international university”
