All students are required to purchase either compulsory catering credit or a 'meal deal' each term. The purchase is credited to your University (Bod) card which is then used pay for food and drink in the Dining Hall.
Option 1: Catering credit
Catering credits may be carried over from term to term (but not year to year) and you can sell or transfer meal credits during the Easter vacation and Trinity Term to other St Hilda's students. Any unused credits will be lost at the end of July each year.
You can buy more catering credits if you need them via UPay.
Costs per term for catering credits are £150 per term for undergraduates living in college accommodation, or £50 per term for graduates and undergraduates living out in privately owned properties.
Please note: meal credits are not refundable.
Option 2: Meal plan
The meal plan is a new initiative for 2024/25, developed with the JCR and MCR, which offers the opportunity to purchase a plan for 16 meals a week (breakfast, lunch, dinner or brunch) for Weeks 0 to 8 of term. The termly cost for a meal plan is £675. Terms and conditions apply and can be found above.
Our cashless card system (UPay)
Money is credited to your University (Bod) card prior to use, which you can do online via UPay. You can use the UPay site to check your balance and usage history, see offers and promotions, and book Formal Hall and subject dinners. You can also check your balance on the tills in the Dining Hall.
We will have emailed you to register and create your UPay account during the weeks before your initial arrival. Simply follow the link which will take you to the University Single Sign On, enter your details and accept the terms and conditions.
You can top up your UPay card online (minimum £20).
