Remember us in your Will
St Hilda's College
Alumnae and Friends

Remember us in your will

By remembering St Hilda’s in your Will, you help to secure the future of the College and ensure that it continues to thrive for generations to come.

Bequests to St Hilda’s have accounted for more than half of the income donated to the College over the last ten years. Alumnae and friends who have indicated that they have included St Hilda’s in their Will are members of the St Hilda’s Society. As a member of the Society, you will be invited to our annual Feast.

As we are a registered charity, your much-valued gift is exempt from UK Inheritance Tax, so leaving a legacy to us not only supports the College but can also reduce the tax liability on your estate. Currently, if you leave 10% or more of your estate to charity, your friends and family will also benefit from a 10% discount on inheritance tax (36% instead of 40%).

How to include St Hilda’s in your will

Thank you for considering leaving a legacy to St Hilda’s. If you would like to discuss your legacy gift plans, please contact the Development Office.
To include St Hilda’s in your Will, you simply include the details of your gift and any specific instructions.

If you already have a Will but now wish to include a gift to St Hilda’s, the easiest way to do so is to instruct your solicitor to add a codicil to your existing Will.

The most common types of legacy gift with which you can support the College are a residuary legacy or a pecuniary legacy.

Residuary legacy
With a residuary legacy, the College will benefit from whatever is left in your estate after all your other bequests.

Pecuniary legacy
A pecuniary legacy is for a fixed amount of money or a share of your estate.

Transfer of Shares, Land and Property

If you transfer quoted shares and securities to us, you can claim UK income tax relief on the full market value of the gift at the time of transfer, as well as relief on any existing capital gains tax due. This enables those holding shares with large capital gains to make a major donation to the College extremely cost-effectively.

If you would like to include St Hilda’s in your Will, we would be very grateful if you could complete the form and let us know about your gift so that we can record and thank you for your valued support.
US$ Legacy gifts

US taxpayers can also receive Estate tax deductions by making a Legacy gift through our 501(c)(3), the American Friends of St Hilda's.
