Dr Alexandra Buckle

Biography

Before joining St Hilda's in 2009, Dr Alexandra Buckle taught at Worcester College, Oxford; University of Bristol, and Oxford Brookes University.

Dr Buckle's research interests include Medieval and Renaissance Music, history of musical institutions, social and political contexts, and Reformation studies. She is especially interested in patronage and iconography and has published widely on these areas in Early Music, Plainsong and Medieval Music, Early Music Today, Early Music Performer, Early Music Review, Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart, and Vidimus. In addition to her academic work, Dr Buckle enjoys outreach work and has recently spoken on BBC Radio 3, been the Music Consultant for English Heritage’s new presentation of Henry II’s Great Tower at Dover Castle, and developed a new adult appreciation course for Classic FM.

In March 2015, Dr Buckle organised the music and prayers for the reburial of Richard III.
