The St Hilda’s Philosophy Symposium once again hosted three events over the 2024-2025 academic year. Each one was attended by between 15-20 philosophers from the College, including Fellows, Lecturers, graduate students, and undergraduates. At each event, a speaker would present some aspect of their recent research, for approximately 45 minutes, which was followed by 45 minutes of questions and discussion. After that, around 15-16 of the attendees, plus the speaker would carry on the conversation over dinner. At each of these events, the students found that the informal setting of the dinner conversation allowed them to engage in deeper, more meaningful discussions on the relevant topics.
Details of each event follow:
Michaelmas Term 2024 - Tim Mawson, St Peter’s College, ‘What is the Meaning of Life?’
Hilary Term 2025 - Monima Chada, Lady Margaret Hall, ‘Must We Construct Agents’
Trinity Term 2025 - Karen Margarethe Nielsen, Somerville College, ‘Infinite Jest? Socrates' Conception of Craft in the Hippias Minor and its Implications for Aristotle's Ethics.'
