On 10 May 2024, St Hilda’s College was delighted to welcome Eleanor Sharpston KC as a guest speaker for the termly Law Lunch event in the beautiful riverside Pavilion. Ms Sharpston is the Arthur Goodhart Visiting Professor in Legal Science at Cambridge and served as an Advocate General at the European Court of Justice from 2006 until Brexit.
She spoke to our law students about recent developments in the EU and the relationship between the EU and neighbouring countries, especially the UK. She addressed the Franco-German proposal put forward by the ‘Group of Twelve’ in a report published last year. This sparked discussion with our undergraduate and graduate students about the role and future of the EU.
The organising law tutors, Dr Havelková and Dr Ungerer, expressed their thanks on behalf of the College to Ms Sharpston for engaging in this conversation in a warm and stimulating atmosphere, which was much enjoyed by all attending.
