St Hilda’s College acquires new student accommodation on Magdalen Road

1 June 2026

The College has purchased a new building which will allow nearly half of all graduate students to be housed in Hilda’s accommodation

On 29th May 2026 St Hilda’s College completed the purchase of Stonemason House (145–146 Magdalen Street). The building, which the college purchased for £6.7 million, is currently being used for student accommodation, with plans to house 44 St Hilda’s graduate students from Michaelmas term 2027.

Securing accommodation for St Hilda’s Students

Stonemason House allows the College to house roughly 50% of its graduate students (in addition to all undergraduates) for their entire courses, should they wish. Thus, relieving some of the strain on the private rental market.

“The acquisition of Stonemason House is a landmark moment for St Hilda’s. It advances our commitment to providing accommodation for nearly half of our graduate students and represents a significant investment in the College’s long-term future.” Chris Wood, Bursar.

Ideally located for students

The future graduate accommodation is ideally placed to complement the College’s existing accommodation on Cowley Road and Iffley Road. This lively area of the city is popular with students and young professionals thanks to the wide variety of local restaurants, bars and is within walking distance of the college on Cowley Place.
