Professor Rachel Condry - Reframing crime through relationships

5 December 2025

This year Professor Rachel Condry, is celebrating 15 years as Criminology Fellow at St Hilda's and Professor of Criminology at the Faculty of Law. On 1 September she also took up the post of Director of the Centre for Criminology.

Professor Condry's research shows that crime is never just an isolated act. It happens within families, where bonds of care and dependency can also give rise to shame, stigma and, at times, violence.

From an unconventional start in academia to pioneering research on adolescent-to-parent violence and matricide, she has consistently drawn attention to the women most often left out of view.
