St Hilda’s warmly congratulates Dr Aleks Kissinger, Associate Professor of Quantum Computing in the Department of Computer Science and Supernumerary Fellow at St Hilda’s, who has been awarded the title of Professor of Quantum Computing in the University of Oxford’s 2025 Recognition of Distinction Exercise.
Dr Kissinger’s work spans quantum software, quantum foundations, and diagrammatic and graph-theoretic techniques. He leads research in quantum compilation, fault-tolerant quantum computing, and classical simulation and verification of quantum computations — all with a strong emphasis on using visual reasoning methods like the ZX-calculus. He is the co-author of two influential textbooks: Picturing Quantum Processes (“The Dodo Book”) and Picturing Quantum Software.
The Recognition of Distinction scheme confers the title of Professor on scholars who have demonstrated an internationally recognised record of research excellence, significant contributions to teaching, and academic citizenship.
We are delighted to see this well-earned recognition of Dr Kissinger’s outstanding contributions to quantum computing and quantum software.
