It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of a former DPhil student and subsequently a faculty language lecturer in Arabic, Otared Haidar, in Oxford.
Dr. Haidar completed her DPhil at St Hilda’s in 2005 under the supervision of Dr Robin Ostle from the Faculty of Oriental Studies (now Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies), later publishing her research as The Prose Poem and the Shi’r Journal: a Comparative Study of Literature, Literary Theory and Journalism. She was a dedicated research student and subsequently a beloved teacher of Arabic to our students, influencing generations of those reading Arabic and EMEL and earning the respect and friendship of her colleagues. Her contribution to college life will always be remembered and the loss will be deeply felt.
Dr. Haidar will be remembered for her enthusiasm in and love for knowledge, dedication to teaching, and her kindness. We extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Haidar’s family and friends.
