On Friday 13th February we welcomed Honorary Fellow and leading composer, Dame Judith Weir DBE Hon FRSE, to the College. Dame Judith served as Master of the King's Music from 2014 to 2024. Appointed by Queen Elizabeth II, she was the first woman to hold this office.
Dame Judith began her evening joining a group of Music students (pictured right) for dinner, during which they discussed her career, how she approached composing and even her appreciation of Taylor Swift!
She went on to be interviewed by Prof Martyn Harry, Artistic Director, in the JdP as part of a special portrait concert to celebrate the life and work. Through accompanying performances from the Lawson Piano Trio, the focus was placed on her output for string instruments and piano, drawing on the exceptional works she has created at various points of her career with groups such as Domus and the Schubert Ensemble.
