TWO PERFORMANCES: 16:30 & 19:00
Sirinu’s concert takes us back to the 12th century when the legends of King Arthur and of Robin and Marion were popular subjects of European songs and literature.
The English interest in Robin Hood and maid Marion, later in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, was pre-empted by that in France and in Germany: the concert begins with some of the earliest French songs written in parts, on the theme of Robin and Marion, and goes on to feature instrumental pieces on medieval fiddle, recorder, shawm and hurdy-gurdy. The songs express a wide range of different themes: the joy of Spring, concerns over a lost a love, drinking in the tavern, religious conflicts and succour, and annoyance at having a horse shot!
This concert is supported by the Continuo Foundation.
