Couperin: L’apothéose de Lully (1725)

Would Lully have approved of Couperin’s ode dedicated to him? Probably not. Couperin sought to unite French and Italian musical cultures, despite Lully’s disdain for the Italian style. This concert explores whether his réunion des goûts achieved musical perfection and ultimately caught on in early 18th-century France.
