World events are covered from 1954-1990: Suez, when Diplomats had tear grenades at the ready, the expulsion of 105 Russian spies in 1971, the countering of continual Russian aggression at Check Point Charlie, and the unexpected invasion of the Falkland Islands in 1982.
In a lighter vein a week’s visit from Charles and Diana is described when it became clear that their marriage would not survive and their mutual unhappiness would soon be shared with the world.
