On 25th April, we welcomed over 50 nurses and research delivery staff from Clinical Research Facilities across the country to St Hilda’s for a day-long workshop on applied Pharmacology.
Led by Cushla Cooper, Operational Lead for the NIHR Oxford CRF, and Duncan Richards, Climax Professor of Clinical Therapeutics and Fellow of St Hilda’s College, the workshop focused on the role of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the development of new treatments. The audience learned about how an understanding of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics informs the selection of dose and suitable patient population for a new medicine, and the key role it plays in patient safety. Participants also had an opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops focusing on practical aspects of sample collection and handling, and on safety reporting in clinical trials.
This workshop forms part of a wider programme of work highlighting how clinical pharmacology supports the development and management of medicines. This work is generously supported by the Climax donation to the University of Oxford.
