Congratulations to Daniella Sakota, recipient of this year’s Shelley-Mills Prize for her essay titled "Listening to Wind-Song: Soundscapes, Nets, and the Music of The Tempest". The Shelley-Mills Prize is dedicated to promoting the study of William Shakespeare's works. The theme for 2023-24 was 'Global Shakespeares'.
The judging panel remarked, "Daniella Sakota's insightful exploration of The Tempest's adaptations, particularly her focus on translating its musicality across various prose forms, impressed us. Her essay demonstrated originality, eloquence, and clarity in both aesthetic and political analyses. Congratulations, Daniella."
In response, Daniella expressed her joy, stating, “I am absolutely thrilled to receive the Shelley-Mills prize for 2024! This year's theme offers a fantastic opportunity to explore Shakespeare's works beyond their traditional Elizabethan English context and to appreciate the diverse cultural interpretations they inspire. I am deeply thankful to the Faculty for this honor and for enabling me to engage with Shakespeare in such a meaningful way!”
