Two performances of the same programme: 4.30pm & 7pm

This recital contrasts some of the most loved harpsichord pieces of the baroque era with pieces that are either newly composed or date from the late 20th century. French music is represented in the pieces by Daquin and Couperin and music from England in the ever popular ‘Harmonious Blacksmith’, Purcell’s suite in D, and music by da Gambarini; the latter is little known today but she was a talented composer and performer in her day. Among the modern pieces Peter Thorne’s jazz influenced Sonatine is added to Keeley’s recently commissioned suite. Montaque’s Mirabella was originally conceived for toy piano and Hovhaness’s pieces invoked elements of his Armenian heritage.
