The lecture will take place at 5:30pm in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building and will be followed by a drinks reception and our wonderful annual Burns Night Dinner at 7:30pm in the Pavilion.
This lecture series was established in honour of alumna Sue Lloyd-Roberts CBE (History and Modern Languages, 1970), the award-winning broadcast journalist whose uncompromising and courageous documentaries highlighted humanitarian issues across the world.
Our speaker this year, Lindsey Hilsum, is Channel 4 News' International Editor and the author of I Brought The War with Me; Stories and Poems from the Front Line. Recently she has reported on the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, and the return of the Taliban in Afghanistan. She has covered the major conflicts and refugee movements of the past three decades, including Syria, Iraq, Kosovo and Rwanda, winning several awards. She is a regular contributor to newspapers and literary journals. Her book In Extremis; the Life of War Correspondent Marie Colvin, won the 2019 James Tait Black Prize for biography.
Please join us after the lecture for a drinks reception and a special fundraising Burns Night Dinner. The lecture and drinks reception are free to attend. Proceeds from the Dinner will go directly to the Sue Lloyd-Roberts Fund, which supports an undergraduate bursary and travel awards named in memory of Sue.
