4-hour Stipendiary Lectureship in German Linguistics

St Hilda’s College invites applications for the fixed-term post of Stipendiary Lecturer in German Linguistics for two terms from 1 January to 31 August 2023. This is an appointment to provide cover whilst the Tutorial Fellow in German Linguistics is on sabbatical leave. No salaried University post is associated with this Lectureship.

Duties of the Post

  • To provide four contact hours’ tutorial teaching each week averaged across the eight weeks of each term to undergraduate students across the University who require tuition in German Linguistics and, if required, to St Hilda’s undergraduates reading joint degrees with Linguistics; teaching the papers referred to in the selection criteria below, setting and marking internal college exams and regularly monitoring and reporting on student progress;
  • To provide pastoral support to undergraduates reading Linguistics in the College;
  • To direct, in collaboration with the Senior Tutor, the organisation of Linguistics teaching in the College;
  • To take part in activities related to Open Days and the College’s access schemes, which may fall outside of full term.

The salary for the post is £9,308 (point 1) to £9.871 (point 3) (current rates) per annum pro rata according to experience and qualifications, and membership of the USS pension scheme is offered. There is a research allowance (payable against receipts) of £300 per annum pro rata. The Lecturer will be entitled to five meals per week (either lunch or dinner) free of charge during Weeks 0 to 9 of each term. The Lecturer may have the use of a teaching room in College. They will be a member of the Senior Common Room at St Hilda’s College.
