Oxford University QUADcast with our alumna, Val McDermid

Best-selling author and our alumna and Honorary Fellow, Val McDermid (English, 1972) spoke to the Alumni Office's Harriet Packer about what it was like to arrive at Oxford as a 17 year old from Fife for the University's QUADcast series.

During the conversation, Val expanded on her experience of discovering the feminist community and realising her own sexuality was different from the hetero-normative society she had grown up in. She also spoke in depth about what it is like to be a crime fiction novelist, her writing process, how she gets so much detail into her novels, how she feels the genre is changing, and the difference between male and female crime writers.
