Lady English Lecture 2016

18:00 to 20:00
The Conflict of Equalities: Religion, Gender and Sexual Orientation

We are delighted to welcome Brenda Hale, Baroness Hale of Richmond, Deputy President UK Supreme Court, who will lecture on 'The Conflict of Equalities: Religion, Gender, and Sexual Orientation.' Watch the event on livestream here.

The law prohibits discrimination on the grounds of various protected characteristics, including sex, sexual orientation and religious belief. But what if one person’s freedom to manifest his religious beliefs conflicts with another person’s rights to be treated equally irrespective of her sex or sexual orientation? How is the law to resolve such conflicts of equalities?

The Lady English Lecture Series marks the College's continuing commitment to the education and advancement of women and promotes the contributions made by women to the University and to public life more generally.

The lecture will take place in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building at 6pm, followed by a drinks reception in the Foyer. All welcome.
