Elsa teaches widely, from Shakespeare to the long nineteenth century. At St Hilda's College, Elsa teaches FHS English Paper 4 (1660-1760) and FHS English Paper 5 (1760-1830). Before coming to St Hilda's, she taught at the University of Bristol.


Elsa's primary research interest is the way that Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Alfred Tennyson engage with cultural and scientific histories of breath and breathing. Broad research interests include literature of the long nineteenth century, Romantic afterlives, elegy, and literature and the sea.
