St Hilda’s is one of the 38 constituent Colleges of Oxford University, spectacularly set in four acres of gardens on the banks of the Cherwell at Magdalen Bridge. The College is an independent and self-governing body with a senior academic staff of 80 Tutorial Fellows and Lecturers, and a number of Research Fellows. The College currently has 400 undergraduates, and 220 graduates.

The College is seeking to recruit a Bursar whose role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities for the non-academic aspects of College life. The purpose of the role is to enable the College to engage in its core functions of teaching and research, through managing the College’s finances, facilities and investments effectively, and developing the conference and functions business. The College is currently undergoing Phase I of an exciting on-site building project with a prospective Phase II to follow therefore this is a critical stage of construction and this appointment will play a significant role in its success. The post is supported by the College’s team of committed professional staff, the College Accountant, Domestic Bursar, IT Manager, HR Manager, and Head of Buildings and Projects.

This is a broadly based and complex role requiring significant management experience, financial acumen and an aptitude for working across a range of short and long term issues. Candidates will have a relevant professional qualification and be used to working with experienced teams across a range of disciplines. They will have the intelligence and personal presence to work effectively with the College Fellows and to understand their concerns as well as those of the students in their care. They will be strategic in their approach, be well organised and energetic and demonstrate excellent communication skills, sharing the ethos of the College with a genuine interest in and commitment to Higher Education, accepting the primacy of the academic objects of the College.
