2023 Sue Lloyd-Roberts Lecture with guest speaker, The Rt Hon the Lord Patten of Barnes, CH, Chancellor of Oxford University

2023 Sue Lloyds-Roberts Lecture

Lecture on 'Foreign Policy and Human Rights': 5.30pm in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building
Burns Night dinner: 7.30pm in the Pavilion

The lecture is available to all to watch via this link.

This lecture series was established in honour of alumna, Sue Lloyd-Roberts CBE (History and Modern Languages, 1970), the award-winning broadcast journalist whose uncompromising and courageous documentaries highlighted humanitarian issues across the world.

Our speaker this year is The Rt Hon the Lord Patten of Barnes, CH, Chancellor of the University of Oxford since 2003. Lord Patten, who read Modern History at Balliol College, is a former British politician and served as the 28th and last Governor of Hong Kong until the territory’s handover to China. He has built up a wealth of knowledge from the various posts he has served in, ranging from Chairman of the Conservative Party, to EU Commissioner, and Chairman of the BBC Trust. His publications include The Hong Kong Diaries (2022), First Confession: A Sort of Memoir (2017), What Next? Surviving the 21st Century (2008), Not Quite the Diplomat: Home Truths About World Affairs (2005), and East and West (1998).

A drinks reception and a special Burns Night fundraising dinner will follow the lecture. Proceeds from the dinner will go to the Sue Lloyd-Roberts Fund which supports St Hilda's students who wish to explore careers in the media.

Dinner booking deadline: Wednesday 18 January 2023
Please note that refunds for cancelled tickets cannot be issued after this date.
