2018 St Hilda’s Crime Fiction Weekend

18:45 to 15:00
St Hilda's 25th Crime Fiction Weekend

Sharks Circling: Politics & Crime

‘There are no true friends in politics. We are all sharks circling, and waiting, for traces of blood to appear in the water.’  Alan Clark Diaries.

This year's conference is fast approaching. In keeping with the traditions of the event (now in its 25th year) we have taken it back to it's orginal title of a 'weekend', welcoming, as ever, all authors and readers alike.

Ours is a weekend with a difference. Launched in 1994, it offers the audience the unique experience of hearing their favourite authors exploring a theme. This develops into a weekend-long dialogue and between speakers and audience that often leads to surprising results. Recent attendees will not soon forget Lee Child getting into hot water over his archeological references or the impromptu audience a capella version of the Van der Valk theme tune conducted by Val McDermid.

This year's theme is 'Politics and Crime'. Spooks to dystopia, modern Ireland to Ancient Rome, V.I. Warshawski to Jackson Lamb, the politically correct to the outrageously non PC.

Speakers include: Adam BrookesChris BrookmyreNatasha CooperLindsey DavisMick HerronJudith FlandersBrian McGillowayAdrian McKintySG MacLeanSJ ParrisManda ScottLouise Welsh, and Andrew Taylor (Chair). We are delighted to announce that this year’s Guest of Honour is Sara Paretsky.

All this plus riverside drinks receptions, the PD James Conference Dinner hosted by Val McDermid, a massive Blackwells shop open on site every day, author signing sessions, some prizes, a brimming goodie bag and even an after dinner whodunnit especially written by Natasha Cooper and featuring a cast of your favourite authors.

Beginning on Friday evening with a dinner and drinks reception, the conference will feature a weekend of talks, discussions and author signings, finishing up with a traditional farewell lunch on Sunday.
