Hiring the Building

I love playing at the Du Pré Hall. It is so intimate, the sound so alive; one can really talk to the audience (musically speaking), as if one were among a group of friends. I always look forward to my visits to this very special little hall.”

Steven Isserlis

"The JDP is our favorite venue, as a travelling opera company we tour regionally but we always make sure we return to 'our home' on regular occasions. The Auditorium is superb, from an acoustic and visual perspective, is well equipped with lovely pianos and great lighting. The audiences love coming to our performances at the JdP, they appreciate the intimate nature, the lovely surroundings of St Hilda's college and the easy parking nearby is a great bonus. From an organisation point of view, we love coming to the JDP because we know every detail is taken care of. "

Mike Woodward - Opera Anywhere

The JdP’s Auditorium offers a first-class acoustic, suited to both musical performance and the spoken voice. The Building’s versatility in terms of adjustable acoustic and seating configuration has enabled it to function successfully as a theatre for lectures, dramatic productions and dance.  Its exceptionally low level of ambient background noise and its Steinway D also make it the perfect recording venue.

"We had a most pleasant day recording in the JdP. The support was excellent - covered everything and was unobtrusive but on-hand when needed. The piano is excellent and the hall is comfortable to work in over an extended period. It is well suited to chamber music. Extraneoues noise was minimal - we heard just one or two aircraft for a short period throughout the day. I look forward to returning to record at JdP when opportunity arises."

Timothy Salter, August 2011

"I feel JdP is a really nice venue for chamber music, with many good features, not least the helpful staff!"
