St Hilda's Music Scholarship Awards 2017/18

26th October 2017
Leo Panish, Laura Coppinger and Toto Gill, with judge Margaret Faultless

We are delighted that pianist Toto Gill (1st year Music) has been awarded the Music Scholarship for 2017/18 for his extraordinarily accomplished performance of Wagner's 'Liebestod' at the competition on 25 October 2017. Two further Awards were granted to violinist Leo Panish (2nd year Engineering Science) and and soprano Laura Coppinger (2nd year, Music). The adjudicator was one of the country's leading violinists and educators, Margaret Faultless (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and Royal Academy of Music).

Many congratulations to the three award winners and to the 10 other musicians who took part. The standard of performance was particularly high this year and is a glowing evidence of the rich musical talent here at St Hilda's.

Toto will be performing at our Founders' Day Service in the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building (Wednesday, week 6). All are welcome to come to our lunchtime concert in the JdP on Thursday of week 7 to hear Leo play. Laura is performing in Bernstein's Candide at the Oxford Playhouse in week 5.
