The choirs of St Hilda's and Corpus Christi College came together for a service on the first Sunday after Ascension
St Hilda's College choir joined forces with the choir of Corpus Christi College on 13 May, the first Sunday after Ascension, in Corpus's beautiful chapel. We heard some joyous music, including Stanford’s Magnificant and Nunc Dimittis in G and Finzi’s wonderfully vibrant anthem, God is gone up. The choirs were conducted by Dr Jonathan Williams, Director of Music at St Hilda's, who is also teaching conducting to the two Corpus organ scholars.
Several members of St Hilda's attended the service. We were pleased to welcome our undergraduates, an Emeritus Fellow, and a representative of the Porters’ Lodge. After a sherry party for the whole congregation in the Rainolds Room, the choirs dined together in hall, along with the speaker for the evening, Claire Browes, a student at Ripon College Cuddesdon, who studying for theology schools and the ministry of the Church of England. Our Chaplain, Canon Brian Mountford, officiated in his capacity of Acting Chaplain of Corpus.
We hope to combine again in Michaelmas Term 2018 for another musical treat.
