6 Hour Stipendiary Lectureship in German
St Hilda’s College invites applications for a one-year six-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in German from 1 October 2018, with the possibility of an extension for a further year from October 2019. The person appointed will hold a doctorate in German, and have experience of teaching German at undergraduate level.
During term the post-holder will be required to undertake a total of 6 hours per week tutorial teaching for St Hilda’s, averaged over three eight-week terms. The appointee will be expected to teach German literature and language.Specific needs include tutorial coverage of the literary set texts for the Preliminary Examination at the end of the first year, and of the modern period of literature (i.e. 1770 to the present) for the Final Honour School (details in the Further Particulars).While the teaching of German conversation and essay-writing is covered by the DAAD-Lektor, the ability to teach translation into and/or out of German is desirable. The post includes additional administrative work for the subject and full involvement with undergraduate admissions. The appointee will serve as Personal Tutor to undergraduates and as College Adviser to postgraduates in German.
The appointee will be paid on a scale from £13,248 (point 1) to £14,049 (point 3) per annum (current rates) according to experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will also be able to claim a research allowance of £235 per annum and an entertainment allowance of £235 per annum. The lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room, and will be entitled to meals free of charge in term-time.
