Preparatory work for our new buildings by Beard Construction began in the summer of 2018. Demolition of the old Middle Common Room, the old Porter’s Lodge and Milham Ford is complete. Our Lodge Team is now welcoming visitors to our new Main Lodge on South Lawn and to Hall Lodge, a second Lodge serving Hall Building. The new Middle Common Room has been installed on South Lawn and is being used by MCR members. Archaeological excavations and recordings were carried out under the guidance of the County Archaeologist in 8th and 9th weeks of Michaelmas Term, after which reduced-level excavations began. Work on the river wall started in January 2019. Foundation piling will begin during the week of 14 January.
Access to South Building, Wolfson, Christina Barrett, and Garden Buildings, and to the Jacqueline du Pré Music Building is via the flagpole gate. Access to Hall Building is via Hall Lodge. More cycle parking has been installed on our College site.
The Oxford City Planning Committee West considered St Hilda’s planning application on 13 March 2018. The application was substantively approved, subject to later approval from the Committee in relation to certain design details. Phase 1 of our 125th Anniversary Building Project will improve and increase our student accommodation and provide new social and teaching spaces, a new Middle Common Room, Porters’ Lodge and College entrance by Autumn 2020. Initial project planning is under way to determine what Phase 2 will provide. The two phases of our planned building programme, across two sites, will ensure that St Hilda’s students and Fellows can flourish in a greatly enhanced academic environment.
